From Obesity To Petite Sizes: Young Woman Lost Half Her Weight Without Any Surgeries And Strict Diets

Melissa Mouawad, a young woman from Sydney, had been a foodie since childhood. When she was 18, she weighed 135 kg (297.6 lbs) and had to wear maternity clothes as she couldn’t fit into anything else.
After @becchambersfit amazing post on confidence in the gym - I thought Id share my first experience in a commercial gym weighig 135kgs. I remember signing up to @fernwoodfitness, all female gym.. I was wearing maternity, plus sized clothes I'd found at Kmart. I started out in the group classes, at the back, I was terribly unfit, morbidly obese, lacking any sort of confidence. BUT I was persistent. I hid at the back of the class, working away, building up my fitness and strength. Slowly but surely I gained confidence and I egded my way closer to the front of the class. It wasn't easy, ever. But it got easier, I got fitter. Until I reached a point where the classes weren't even challenging anymore, and my confidence superseded Fernwood. This is just a reminder that we all started somewhere - choose a gym that makes you feel welcome, and comfortable. With like minded people and trust me - it will get easier 🏋️♀️
Doctors were concerned about Melissa’s eating habits and weight. They told her she was at risk of a heart attack and developing diabetes, and to prevent this, she would have to lose weight and eat healthy.
The health risks were not the only downside of being overweight. As Melissa wrote, she had practically no social life, and her confidence and self-esteem were in tatters.
Let's talk about the fun I used to have when I was morbidly obese.. Whole box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts? Yeah that was a snack. How about preparing cake batter to eat, not to bake? Or how about eating a McDonald's family meal, but not sharing with your family? Now let's talk about the down side of being obese... No social life, zero self love, wearing old ladies clothes because shopping was an embarrassment, having health issues at the age of 18, avoiding the stairs because it hurt to climb them, staying in a dead end toxic relationship because who else would love me? Denting my car because I fell on it...just to name a few. Don't compromise your quality of life because food is more important, having a fantastic, fulfilling, adventurous life is better than any short term satisfaction that food can give you. Don't let food run your life, you control your actions.
The doctors’ warnings sank in, and Melissa came to realize she needs to take action, but she was at a loss. How was she supposed to do it?
After several years of trying various diets and exercise plans, losing some weight and gaining it back, Melissa found what worked for her.
I always have people tell me how they can't lose weight, how they eat healthy and exercise but nothing happens.. Well guess what? Weightloss is hard. For the past 6 years I've worked my ass off day in, day out to get to where I am. I've missed social events, I've all but given up drinking, I make gym my priority twice a day before work, before family, before my relationship. ____________________________________ I completely changed who I was and this is who I am now. This lifestyle makes up 50% of my personality and I'm ok with that. You can't sort of, half ass, part time your weight loss. It's an all day, every day, 24/7, 365 days a year kind of thing. That is how you get results.
How did Melissa manage it?
Five years ago, the young woman figured it out. Her plan, which she continues to follow to this day, involves counting calories and balancing carbs, proteins, and fats.
As to the exercise part, the young woman follows a strict regimen. She works out 6 days a week. Although starting to exercise and doing it regularly wasn’t an easy task, Melissa remained committed to her goal and her efforts paid off!
Do you know what i'm doing here ? My sister caught me on camera grabbing at my stomach because I feel fat . Pretty crazy seeing as how I used to be double my size just a few years ago .. Losing weight isnt the end all and be all of your problems , sure i'm no longer fat but my demons still haunt me daily . Each day I have to remind myself that I am extraordinary and that I am no longer that obese person . On the otherhand I also have to constantly be on my game, constantly aware of what i'm eating, how much im training , how much water i drink etc . Just because I reached a certain weight doesn't mean i can relax ..this is is 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year lifestyle change ☝
Here’s how she described her progress:
I went to fitness classes wearing my maternity gym clothes and just stayed in the back trying to keep up. I was ashamed of my body but was determined to try my best.
After a while, I gradually moved to the front of the class. Then I moved onto cardio, and eventually weight training.
I'm fitter than I've ever been, and I can't believe my body can move the way it does now.
Melissa lost 65 kg (143.3 lbs.), and that’s almost half of her original weight! With the weight loss came the renewed confidence. A year ago, Melissa got married to her beloved man, Edward Mouawad.
