The police may have their hands full maintaining the peace, but they still know how to have fun. For example, some police departments participated in a Lip Sync Battle challenge. The original Lip Sync Battle show gained popularity on television and had different celebrities singing and dancing to smash hits.
While these officers may not have their names in stars on the Hollywood walk of fame, they sure do know how to bust a move. This particular video was shared by the city of Monroe Police Department over the weekend and has gotten millions of views.
The video features officers in uniform lip-synching and dancing to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mar’s hit anthem, “Uptown Funk.”
The video is one of many entries in a national online police competition powered by the various public relations units. According to the department, funding for the project did not come from official sources.
Cops can dance
From San Antonio to Arlington, Norfolk to Fort Worth, police officers continue to share videos for the lip-sync challenge. The phenomenon has taken on a life of its own and is already trending on most social media sites.
What makes the video from the city of Monroe even more special is that this is the first music video length entry for the challenge. And we think the officers did a pretty good job. But, while these videos may look like a step in the right direction and an attempt to humanize the police, some observers are far from convinced.
With agitation on the rise for sterner measures against officers who misuse their power and inflict harm to harmless civilians, only time will tell if such attempts at changing the narrative will yield positive results. For now, let’s get those feet dancing and lips moving.
