Thrombi are blood clots that form in the lumen of blood vessels in response to vascular wall damage. Thrombi take part in the process of hemostasis (prevent the occurrence of severe bleeding if you have, for example, cut yourself).

Many people have blood clots in their bodies, however, they usually instantly resolve themselves and do not cause any symptoms as the coagulation and anti-coagulation systems of blood work well. If a thrombus occurs, it can cause the clogging of a vessel.
