'I'm A Really Good Mom'. Sarah Ferguson Talks About How She Keeps Her Family United

Date December 27, 2017

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, is hoping to make her way back to public life through her ambassadorship for the British Heart Foundation. In her interview with Hello Magazine, she revealed that coming out to support the foundation has been a huge deal for her, as she had not had any official public appearance in years.

Ferguson also added that all the backlash and negative press she endured many years ago was what led her to take a break from the public.

"But for the first time in seven years, this is me wanting to step forward," she said to the magazine, adding that this was a huge step for her.

The negative press she was referring to was all the drama that surrounded her during her marriage and subsequent divorce from Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and second son of Queen Elizabeth II. The pair got married in July 1986, and things were rosy with the family until 1991 when trouble started brewing between the couple.

During this time, the Duchess was spotted hanging out with other men. After she eventually got divorced from Andrew in 1992, pictures of her sunbathing topless with a financial manager, named John Bryan, hit the press. The media and members of the public had a field day as they labelled her with all sorts of unflattering adjectives.

All these became too much for Sarah, who eventually had to take a break from being seen in public. However, it looked like all the drama did not affect how she raised her two daughters and maintaining a civil relationship with Prince Andrew.

She revealed to Hello that she and the Duke are supportive of each other, especially when it comes to their children. Sarah also added that she is very proud of her role and actions as a mother.

The mom to 29-year-old Princess Beatrice and 27-year-old Princess Eugenie said:

I think the one thing I've done incredibly well – although I say it myself – is that I'm a really good mom. And I think that my girls show that.

Princess Beatrice very much agreed. In a recent interview, she revealed to Hello Magazine that one of the things she admired about her mother, who she described as her role model, was her ability to create joy despite whatever was going on around her.

"She's probably one of the most misunderstood women in the world," she told the magazine, adding that she has always been inspired by her mother's generosity.

"She’s my best friend," Beatrice added.

While we can all agree that Sarah Ferguson survived one of the most scandalous events in the British royal history, it looks like she never let this keep her from doing her best for her family. And her daughters are incredibly proud of her for this.
