Actor Mark Wahlberg Admits Faith In God Turned His Life Around For The Better

Meeting and falling in love with Jesus isn’t exactly the beginning of a religion. Rather it is the beginning of a journey towards a fulfilling and satisfying life. And one person whose life typifies this so well is Mark Wahlberg.

Mark is popularly known as an American actor, producer, businessman, rapper, and former model, who is also the co-founder of Wahlburgers Restaurant Chain.

Having been through the negative road and now the positive one, Mark seems to have had enough experience of both worlds to make a clear and conscious decision of what is right for him. His life truly depicts the fact that just anyone can come to Christ and have their lives changed for the better.

His Background And Early Life

The Wahlberg that is popularly known as an actor and businessman today started out way back as part of a Funky Bunch. He grew up in Boston and was addicted to cocaine as a teenager.

He was arrested several times as a teen and at age 16, he was charged with attempted murder. At the age of seventeen, he spent time in jail for assaulting two individuals. He later said:

I never would have been able to change my life and have the success and love that I have in my world today without my faith.

Since then, he has moved on to build quite an interesting career for himself till date. He has been nominated for an Academy Award twice and served as the executive producer for TV Series Entourage.

His Turning Point

For most people, going to prison is like the beginning of the rest of their lives that doesn’t turn out nice; Mark seemed to have had his transformation right there in prison.

While in prison, he was lucky to have had his old Catholic Parish Priest who guided him. It was Father James Flavin who helped him turn his life around. And in 2009, he told Daily Mail that Father Flavin was:

... the one person who never gave up on me. … He was always there for me, through the good times and the bad. Back then, there was more bad times than good. But he always had faith that I could change my ways. He was the first to recognize the actor in me.

His Current Commitment To His Faith

In an interview with Pierce Morgan, Wahlberg mentioned that he goes to church for 15-20 minutes every day.

This practice, he said, helps him to begin each day with a clear outlook and navigate his way through all the negativity out there.

Also, in that interview with Pierce, he highlighted the details of his daily prayer, saying:

I pray to be a good servant to God, a father, a husband, a son, a friend, a brother and uncle, a good neighbor, a good leader to those who look up to me, and a good follower to those that are serving God and doing the right thing.

At another time in an interview with Walter Scott, Wahlberg stated that:

Faith keeps me focused, patient, calm, happy, and gives me joy. I start and end my day in prayer. It keeps me grateful, humble, hungry, committed to trying to do more and be more positive. It is the reason for everything good in my life.

Mark Wahlberg is now married to model Rhea Durham, and the couple has two sons and two daughters together.

His transformation is a testimonial to the fact that just about anybody can rise out of any condition in life by embracing the love that Jesus brings, and by rebuilding their lives.
