Atheist Actor's, Andrew Garfield's, Role In "Silence" Sparkled His Relationship With Jesus

No one can really determine how he gets to meet with the Lord, but sure enough, it’s something everyone born into this world will have an opportunity for at least once. The story of how the actor Andrew Garfield, who had described himself as a pantheist, agnostic, occasionally atheist, and a little bit Jewish sure stands out.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world (John 1:8-9).

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Epsom, the British-American actor began his career on the UK stages and production. He probably had no idea that he was going to meet and fall in love with Jesus at any point in his life, but that happened right on his job.

Preparing For The Movie “Silence”

Actors are known for going through rigorous preparations for their movies: from losing weight to taking special courses, training programs, and so on. That was the case with Andrew, who was going to play the role of Father Sebastiao Rodrigues in the movie “Silence.”

He spent an entire year with Father James Martin – a Jesuit priest, investigating the Christian theology. The priest took his time to teach Andrew about Christ and in the process, he discovered something greater than himself!

The irony of it all was the fact that the movie “Silence” tells the story of Jesuit priests who lost their faith when faced with persecution in Japan. And in preparation for it, the actor, who played the role of the priest, met and fell in love with Jesus!

While speaking in an interview with American Magazine, Andrew Garfield said:

What was really easy was falling in love with this person, was falling in love with Jesus Christ. That was the most surprising thing… That was the most remarkable thing—falling in love, and how easy it was to fall in love with Jesus.

In an interview with Stephen Colbert, the host of The Late Show, Andrew said:

Not only do we study the theology and the history of the Society of Jesus [the actual name of the Jesuits Catholic order], but there's these – these processes, called the spiritual exercises, that St. Ignatius created when he founded the order.

The whole experience turned the actor’s life around and taught him to be a service to a greater good. He also mentioned that one of the results of those days of training is that he now sees things differently! He has learned to see God and His love in virtually everything.

This truly doesn’t happen every day in Hollywood, and we are so excited for what God has done for Andrew Garfield. In case you haven’t met with and fallen in love with Jesus yet, you can do so by saving the prayer below.

Prayer of Salvation:

If you are ready to be born again now, just say the following words of prayer and believe it in your heart:

Dear heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ.

I thank you for loving me so much and sending your only begotten son to die in my place that I might have life and have it more abundantly.

I acknowledge and appropriate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus to my life. I confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life, and I am born again.

Thank you, Father, for saving me in Jesus name.
