Australian Actor And Producer, Hugh Jackman, Talks About His Christian Position In Life And Career
In 2015, during an interview with Parade Magazine, Hugh Jackman made a statement that he is a Christian. For whatever reason, this resulted in a reaction from the public. Yet, a careful look at his background shows that this is not a surprise since Hugh had been raised in a Christian family.
His upbringing and background
As a little boy, Jackman’s dad had been converted to Christ at Billy Graham Crusade. So, Hugh literally grew up in a Christian home. They did not only attend Sunday service regularly but also visited quite a few tent meetings as well.
However, many people thought that the actor didn’t share his father’s faith in Christ. During the interview with Parade Magazine, Jackman said:
I’m a Christian. I was brought up very religious. I used to go to different evangelists’ [revival] tents all the time.

Aside from admitting that he is a Christian, Hugh also mentioned that he did not visit a church for a while. He told that he finds evangelical churches very “restrictive”.
How Christianity influenced his career
Back in the day when he visited tent meetings, Jackman was always fascinated by the preachers and their ability to inspire people. In fact, he told Parade Magazine:
When I was about 13, I had a weird premonition that I was going to be onstage, like the preachers I saw.
Whether that was just wishful thinking or inspiration, we can’t tell. However, it is interesting to see that he has turned out to be an actor and stage performer now. God leads and guides him during his life.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jer 29:11
The star also described his job as an actor as a way of honoring God.
I feel what everyone's searching for, the feeling that unites us all. Call it 'God.' Before I go onstage every night, I pause and dedicate the performance to God, in the sense of 'Allow me to surrender'.
Beyond acting, his faith motivates his philanthropic activities. In the movie industry that is almost anti-religion, it is truly commendable that Jackman so boldly declares his faith in Jesus Christ.
