Body Confidence Tips From Plus-Size Models

Date January 26, 2018 16:20

Fat shaming has overflowed social media. In Ancient Greece and during the Italian Renaissance, luscious curves were the epitome of beauty. Maybe, times like that will come again in the future. Plus-size models, who are revolutionizing the modeling industry, have something to say for those who feel like their bodies do not fit the “norm”.

Find a role model

It could be someone who inspires you with their looks. It could be a celebrity, a best friend, or even our own mother. It is important for women of all ages to have people they can admire - people who can get real about their bodies and talk about things like cellulite. We all have it, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Befriend a mirror

We all have at least one part of our bodies that we love. Embracing it in the mirror, calling it sweet names, and accentuating it could really boost your confidence. It may sound silly, but positive affirmations said in front of the mirror also work, especially when there is a firm belief attached to them.

Remember that body shape doesn’t reflect on health

Some people think that plus-size means overweight and unhealthy. But there are so many beautiful curvy women who are active and athletic. Being skinny doesn’t necessarily equal being healthy.

Accept yourself

Accepting ourselves can be a difficult thing to do, but it is the thing that makes us move forward. There is nothing wrong with making our bodies better, but it is important to remember that we are great just the way we are. Wally Lamb, New York Times author of the novel “We Are Water”, once said:

Change what you can, accept what you can’t, and be smart enough to know the difference.

Nurture self-love

People who radiate confidence and have self-love attract others. It is hard to love someone who doesn’t love themselves. Self-love can change how others perceive us as well as how we perceive ourselves. Moreover, it is a great motivation for taking care of our health and doing everything we can to improve our being.

Beauty is universal; it doesn’t come in one size. There is a reason curvy models are gaining more popularity. They inspire us to accept and love the body that is given to us, and they are changing the lives of women who have been struggling with a negative body image for their entire life. Your body is not the enemy, but negative thinking is.
