Animals end up on the streets for various reasons: they can be born there, get lost, run away, or can be abandoned by their owners who no longer wanted the responsibility. There are animals that were betrayed in the worst way by their closest human in the world. You may remember the stories of elderly Chico, who was nearly killed by the new owner, and Cala, who was severely abused. How many more of them are there?
This little dog named Frodo was saved on the streets of Croatia. The pup was starving and ridden with fleas and ticks. Even an experienced veterinarian, Klaudija Sigurnjak, whom caring people told about the poor pup, could hardly tell it was a canine. Later she told The Dodo the story of Frodo’s incredible transformation.
His entire tiny body was covered in scratch wounds and both eyes were infected, with the right one beyond saving despite the doctors’ efforts. No one knew if he would survive, but Klaudija was not going to give up.
It is unknown how the puppy ended up in that horrible condition. One thing was clear: Frodo would have to fight for his life.
After a few months, the creature that used to scare the locals turned into a lovely and playful pet.
Frodo’s skin was slowly healing, beautiful and thick hair gradually grew back. The pup gained a little weight, and probably felt that there was something to live for.
We can’t even imagine what Frodo felt before, how disappointed he was in people, from whom all he wanted was a little love. Fortunately, the days of pain and suffering were over. Even having lost his eye, he became a real cutie.
A little later, Frodo joined a loving family ready to take care of him.
But what would have happened to the puppy if it hadn’t been for people who found him and Klaudija?
And here is another story of a transformation. She looked like a regular stray dog, but what was discovered under her shaggy hair made people weep.
The dog was severely undernourished and was on the verge of starvation. But it would be difficult to tell at first glance, wouldn’t it?
She did not even have the strength to get up and had to be literally hand-fed.
But care and love helped her to transform beyond recognition!
What do people feel when they pass by a dirty, sick animal? Disgust, indifference, compassion? But how many of us bother to look into its eyes and see hope mixed with fear and disappointment? Apparently, not many. Is there really so little room in our hearts?
