An example set by a loved one or celebrity can be really motivational and help us change our life for the better. But sometimes even four-legged friends can push us to change!
Bertha, a 9-year-old Chihuahua, was taken to an animal shelter after her owner had passed away. At that time, she weighed about 12 pounds – 2 1/2 times heavier than normal.
The staff of the shelter couldn’t provide her with proper care, so the organization Muttville Senior Dog Rescue volunteered to help Bertha.
They knew it wouldn’t be easy. The Chihuahua was so overweight that during simple walks, she couldn’t walk without taking frequent breaks.
In the meantime, Bertha’s info and photos were posted on Instagram with the hope of finding her a new forever home. And soon it happened!
I thought she was so cute and she had the sweetest face and demeanor. I knew how rewarding it can be to help a dog lose weight and see what a positive impact it can have on them.
— Bertha’s new owner, Allison Hackett, said.
The woman put the Chihuahua on a balanced diet and made sure she had a lot of exercise. Since Allison took Bertha in, the pup has lost half her weight! By January 2018, she weighed 6 pounds.
According to Hackett, the dog couldn’t even wag its tail before, but now she never stops. Every day, Bertha learns how beautiful life is. Now she can go on long walks and all thanks to the people who came to her rescue.
The story of this cute canine can be good motivation for people, wouldn’t you agree? After all, if a 9-year-old Chihuahua could get rid of excess weight, then how can any of us fail!
