Success doesn't just come in a flash. Before becoming rich and famous, many stars did third-rate shows, failed and faced rejection. For instance, now world-famous George Clooney had a long time going to auditions and casting sessions with no luck and to make a buck, he had to sell women's shoes, sell insurance door-to-door, and also did minor construction works. He got his first big success only at the age of 33 after the TV series ER was released.

Surprisingly, the actress never considered herself pretty, neither when she was young, nor now!

I didn’t have any confidence in my beauty when I was young. I felt like a character actress and I still do.

– Meryl once said.

But one day, something absolutely outrageous happened to her.

Meryl, who was not yet very famous, came for an audition for a part in King Kong. She was received by the film's producer Dino De Laurentiis who was with his son.

I walked in and his son was sitting there, and he was very excited that he brought in this new actress. And the father said to his son in Italian – because I understand Italian – he said, ‘Que bruta? Why do you bring me this ugly thing?’

– recalls the actress.

Admirably, she didn't fumble and replied to these brutes, also in Italian:

I understand what you’re saying. I’m sorry I’m not beautiful enough to be in King Kong.

Of course, now Meryl recalls it all with a smile on her face, but you can imagine how hurtful it was for her to hear something like that!

We hope that the producer and his son regretted their words later on. Meryl Streep is a woman of stunning beauty and charm. How could anyone ever say something like that about her?
