From the first days into their parenthood, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it clear that their style of upbringing differs from that adopted by Kate Middleton and Prince William. Although the Duchess of Sussex decided not to step out on the day of labor, she took part in a photocall through which people saw the boy for the first time.

A few days later, on May 12, a lovely photo of little Archie was posted on the official Instagram page of Meghan and Harry. Markle showed her firstborn’s tiny feet and dedicated it to all mothers.

It is peculiar that such private photos of the Cambridges are very rare. Kate Middleton strictly controls what information about her children goes public.

But let’s return to Archie and his mother. The caption was very concise.

Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered.

We honor and celebrate each and every one of you.

Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe.

It’s only logical to expect a similar statement on the official page of the Cambridges. But Kate and William didn't recognize this fact at all, despite that Mother’s Day is celebrated in some countries of the Commonwealth. What could be the reason?

Let us remind you that most of her life, Meghan used to be a citizen of the USA where this holiday is one of the most sacred. It became a tradition in the early 20th century thanks to Anna Jarvis, whose initiative was eagerly backed by companies pursuing their own interests.

Many other countries borrowed this holiday from Americans, linking it to various events (religious, historical, or folklore). The meaning behind the idea of Mother’s Day, however, was preserved in the date: it is generally celebrated in March or May.

People of Britain, of which Kate Middleton and Prince William of course are citizens, celebrate it on the last Sunday of March, which this year happened to be March 31. But why not in May, like many other countries?

Mothering Sunday in Britain was a day when all people, masters and their servants, went home to congratulate or honor the memory of their mothers. Over time, it almost lost its connection to religion (it used to be mandatory to attend a solemn mass) and became one of the days for children to show their gratitude and love for the dearest person in the world.

Previously mentioned Anna Jarvis, who by the way was disappointed by the commercialization of the holiday, suggested celebrating it in May as a tribute to her own mother who had passed away in this month.

Perhaps we shouldn’t expect the Cambridges to take an example from the Sussexes and make non-work-related announcements. After all, William and Kate one day will be King and Queen, so they have to follow the protocol by the letter. What do you think, is Duchess Megan overzealous and ruining age-old traditions?
