Truce Or Pretense? Queen Letizia Demonstrates Good Relations With Her Mother-In-Law

Queen Letizia is an idol for many Spanish women – she is a beautiful and stylish woman, a beautiful wife and mother, and an active public figure. She is admired for many things, but her attitude towards her mother-in-law, the mother of Felipe VI – Queen Sofia – isn’t one of them.

As you may probably know, during the Easter service, a rather unpleasant incident took place between the two women. When the whole family went to the traditional photo session after the Mass, Letizia has walked right between her mother-in-law and photographers several times. The video cameras filmed the moment of her almost pushing away Queen Sofia’s arm when the latter was about to embrace one of the girls. Then, the representatives of the Spanish royal family explained this situation by excessive maternal care, and the desire to make children feel comfortable in unusual situations.

Recently, Felipe VI’s wife has been promoting an image of harmonious relationships with her mother-in-law. The women seldom appear in public together, but when they do, Letizia literally embodies respect and attentiveness towards Sofia. She enjoys posing with Sofia in front of the cameras, carefully helping her in ordinary situations, such as holding the car door.

Recently, the Spanish royal family released official portraits of Letizia, Felipe, and their children, which many would find warm and touching. Just a few days earlier, Queen Letizia, accompanied by her daughters and mother-in-law, went to the market, just like any other family would do. As usual, she charmed the public with her ability to look classy in casual clothes.

Judging by these photos, one can assume that if Letizia and Sofia have not resolved all their issues, at least, they concluded a truce.

Later on the same day, the family attended the concert of a Spanish violinist virtuoso, Ara Malikian, which, apparently, was thoroughly enjoyed by both adults and children.

However, it didn’t go without some gaffe. Posing for cameras, Letizia, once again, accidentally or not, blocked Queen Sofia.

The relations with mother-in-laws are almost never simple and pleasant, because there always appear to be a stumbling block. Nevertheless, we hope that the former and current Queens of Spain will truly find common ground in the foreseeable future.
