However, the movie could have been quite different with other actors and ending. Not everything went as originally planned. There were changes even on the stage of filming. Here is just a small list of peculiar facts about “Pretty Woman.”

1. The original title of the film was “$3,000” as was the amount Vivian and Edward agreed upon. But when the soundtrack “Oh, Pretty Woman” appeared, the title simply had to change.

2. Julia Roberts wasn’t immediately approved for the role of Vivian.

Lots of other actresses were offered the role of the pretty woman, including Karen Allen, Molly Ringwald, Meg Ryan, Michelle Pfeiffer, and a number of others. The casting for the main character took too long, and in the end, the choice was made in favor of then young and unknown actress. It was Julia’s moment of glory!

3. There were also many candidates for the role of the financial tycoon. But some had a busy schedule, others refused for different reasons, like Christopher Reeve and Al Pacino. Richard Gere agreed and came up trumps!

4. The scene, when Richard Gere snapped the jewelry box close on Julia's fingers, was not scripted. Nobody expected it, including Julia!

5. As for the necklace, it was a real deal: it cost $250,000 and it was accompanied by an armed guard at all times.

6. In a scene, when Richard Gere sits down at the piano and plays a piece of music, it was his own composition.

7. Intimate scenes were particularly difficult for the 21-year-old Julia. She used to get so nervous that a vein would pop out on her forehead. The shooting had to be delayed until the massage worked.

8. In order to make Julia laugh at a black-and-white film, the director had to tickle her feet.

9. The famous red dress Vivian wore to the opera with Edward originally had to be black. But the costume designer Marilyn Vance wouldn’t see it other than red. After trying several options of dresses and making numerous takes, the production finally yielded to the professional's idea.
