Treating His Grandchildren Differently: Why Prince Philip Can Miss Out On Princess Eugenie's Wedding

Date August 14, 2018 19:21

The last months have been quite eventful for the royal family - Prince Louis's birth and christening, Harry and Meghan's wedding, Elizabeth II's actual and official birthday, horse races, polo and tennis tournaments, and many other events that delighted fans of the British monarchy. At the same time, another celebration is approaching - Princess Eugenie of York and her partner Jack Brooksbank are going to have a wedding on October 12, 2018.

Of course, the ceremony will be different from the one that millions of people around the world watched in real time, when Harry and Meghan made vows to each other. Probably, it will be a standard British royal wedding in compliance with numerous traditions, which Duke and Duchess of Sussex violated a few months earlier.

The happy bride is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, the third child of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, for whom Princess Eugenie is the sixth granddaughter.

Sarah Ferguson, also known as Fergie, married the girl's father in 1986. Besides, her closest friend Lady Di was rumored to have contributed to this marriage to a great extent.

By the way, Sarah's luxurious engagement ring with a big red ruby is very similar to the one that Jack presented to Eugenie. Despite having two daughters, Beatrice and bride-to-be Eugenie, the couple divorced in 1996 after 10 years of marriage. Most likely their problems began due to Andrew's success in the military career shortly after they had the second baby.

The last straw was Sarah's affair during her stay in the USA.

Though Ferguson retained the title of duchess, Prince Philip deprived her of one significant privilege. It is believed that he still couldn't forgive her for what had happened in the USA (she still had been Andrew's wife and thus stained the reputation of the British royal family) and tried to avoid the former daughter-in-law in every possible way. She is probably the one person prohibited from staying at Prince Philip’s and Elizabeth II’s estate in Sandringham even during Christmas, when the whole family gathers. The family which she could have been a part of, even after the divorce.

Next, to solve her own financial problems Sarah Ferguson offered an undercover officer to buy top-secret information, which her ex-husband had clearance to. In short, the duchess gave enough reasons for the famous in-laws to turn their back on her.

There is an interesting fact: Sarah was not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011. The reason might be that the newlyweds didn’t want to upset Duke of Edinburgh. Nevertheless, Prince Philip couldn’t avoid meeting the former daughter-in-law at Harry and Meghan's wedding, but apparently he handled it well.

Despite the fact that the Queen's husband has retired, he still accompanies her to certain events. But there is every reason to believe that Duke of Edinburgh will not be present at his granddaughter Eugenie's wedding, because of his disaffection towards her mother.

There are conflicts in each family, but not all of them are as complicated as the ones Sarah Ferguson is involved in. Most likely, many people would feel exactly the same in Prince Philip’s shoes. However, is this the way to treat your granddaughter? Surely, we will know more closer to October 12.
