One can only imagine how the hearts of Megan Markle and Prince Harry stop every time the name of Megan's father, Thomas Markle, appear in the headlines. Surely, the first thought: "What else did he do, to whom and what did he say?". It's amazing how the 74-year-old man can be such a pain in the bum for the British royal family.
Once again, Mr. Markle-the-Royals-tremble. After a short lull, Mr. Markle reappeared in the media. This time, his statement was, if not a revelation, then a surprise for sure. The father of the Duchess of Sussex appeared as a genuinely repentant man, which is clearly different from all his previous "roles" in the press.
Thomas Markle admitted that he didn't listen to Prince Harry when, at the beginning of the relationship with Meghan, the former asked not to contact the press and not to give interviews or comments. Mr. Markle recalls:
Harry told me that I should never go to the press. That it would end in tears. He said, “They will eat you alive.” He was right.
However, the future father-in-law did not listen and participated in staged photo shoots (with a book about Britain, trying on a suit, etc), gave interviews with some really unpleasant comments on the royal family, of which Megan was going to become a member. According to Thomas Markle, he was moved by resentment and pain for not being given a word at the wedding of his daughter.
He also regrets that he hung up during the conversation with Prince Harry when he was treated at the hospital. The son-in-law reminded him of the request not to contact the paparazzi in order to avoid any troubles. But Thomas Markle told him the following:
Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead… then you could pretend to be sad.
Now, he recognizes that the prince has been right all the way, repents for his actions and promises no longer to give any interview to the press and to return to his normal life.
Kensington Palace declined to comment on these statements of Mr. Markle.
We are not psychologists to make diagnoses, and Mr. Markle did not make such request, yet still, his impulsive character makes us doubt in his "sincere repentance." Or maybe he did change his mind indeed?
