Raising A Lady: 5 Rules Of Personal Hygiene That A Girl Needs To Be Taught From Childhood

While boys can be pretty relaxed about their appearance, girls are a totally different story. They strive to resemble their beautiful mothers: they wear dresses and copy mom's hairstyles. Teaching children to be neat is no less important than instilling hygienic habits in them, which is especially important for a girl. Earlier we talked about things girls need to be taught before entering adolescence. What are the must-knows for a little princess? The answer is simple: the basic rules of hygiene.

1. Regular tooth brushing
A smile is one of a woman’s best accessories. In order to have healthy teeth in the future, one needs to take care of the milk teeth. Explain to your little angel that the remains of food lead to tooth decay, which is ugly, painful, and is accompanied with bad breath. Your pediatric dentist should help you choose a suitable toothpaste and toothbrush, and show you how to handle them correctly.

2. Washing up
Gentle baby skin doesn’t require that thorough washing, but you need to teach a girl to wash her face anyway. Being accustomed to keeping her face clean will later save her from many problems typical for teens, and will become the foundation of her future beauty ritual that can prolong the youth of her skin and keep it healthy.

3. Washing the hands
Clean hands are the key to general health. Children often explore the world through tactile contact and thus collect all kinds of microbes on their hands. Explain to your little one that she needs to wash her hands not only when they are visibly dirty. This procedure is a must after going to the toilet or returning from outdoor play, as well as before eating.

4. Nail care
There is nothing more disgusting than neglected nails: filthy, broken, or unevenly groomed. Teach the girl to keep her nails neat and trimmed from childhood. If applicable, gently wean your daughter off nail-biting. In the future, it is likely that she will start getting professional manicures, but she should be able to do it regularly and on her own.

5. Intimate hygiene
Earlier we wrote about intimate hygiene for girls of different ages, starting from birth. Since childhood, they need to be taught to regularly and properly wash their genitalia. And for this, you need to make it clear to them why it is important (to avoid the growth of pathogenic microbes, unpleasant smell, etc.). Intimate hygiene is especially important in adolescence and during menstruation.

Mother is the best example for every girl. Beautiful, well-groomed, smelling nice, and neatly dressed, even at home. To begin with, you can turn all these hygienic procedures into a bonding experience, and after your daughter develops the essential habits, she will manage great on her own. The main thing is to make your little princess understand what it is for.
