When we tie the knot, we say our wedding vows, promising to be with our partner no matter what. Traditionally spouses promise something along the lines of:

I take thee to be my wedded husband/wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.
But what if one of the partners has changed a lot over the years and not for the better? Of course, we don't love only for the looks, yet what should the "party affected" do?

One Reddit user asked a similar question. He turned to the community with something that, apparently, was bothering him at that moment:
Would your wife being fat be a reason to get a divorce? Why or why not?
Readers' opinions virtually all had the same message: extra weight is not a good reason for a divorce. A reason may be a combination of factors.

Journalist David Eddie was asked a similar question. The questioner married a slim, toned, sporty girl. Over 2 years of marriage, she gained a significant amount of weight while he's kept fit and always on the move. He wants to get divorced, but he's not sure if it's fair to do so.

David gave a very comprehensive answer, the main point of which being that the husband should help his wife. Uncontrollable weight gain may often be caused by a psychological issue. What if his wife is depressed and she is stress-eating? David recommended the man to speak with his wife very carefully. Listen to her and try not to hurt her. Encourage and support her in everything she does. Praise her for her any achievement. And show her that she can rely on him and feel safe. Another solution may be suggesting to switch to a healthy diet together and buy only healthy foods.
