Many people also believe that the development of a relationship depends on the age of the partners at the time when the family is created. But why does it happen that some partners feel unhappy in a good marriage and is there any other option apart from divorce?

There are many factors that can destroy a relationship between spouses. They include lack of trust, no common interests, a desire for self-improvement, infidelity, egocentrism of one of the partners, lack of time for each other, and even parental intrusion.

In seemingly happy families, despite wealth, mutual understanding, love, and zero toxicity, spouses may often feel unhappy for two reasons:

Keep in mind that marriage is constantly changing. Now, life partners can change their lifestyle without trying to keep up with the Joneses or meet certain standards. There are many solid couples who live in different rooms and even houses or entered into the marriage for other purposes than love. Some people consider their past relationship happy despite the fact that it was short-lived. So, what should two people do if they love and support each other, but don’t feel satisfied in their relationship?

A study conducted in 2017 came to some unexpected conclusions. Scientists found that sometimes staying in an unhappy marriage is the best option.

Generally, the feeling of dissatisfaction follows a great change, such as childbirth, relocation, or a new lifestyle or occupation. However, life gets better over time as children grow up and certain tasks get accomplished. Then the couple feels relieved. But not everyone is willing to wait for it. Meanwhile, scientists have discovered that once-unhappy partners become much closer after overcoming difficulties than they were at the beginning of their family life.

No marriage is without its fair share of struggles. But it is quite possible to overcome difficulties together – unless they are related to abuse, harmful addictions, or other fundamental aspects. This is what 68% of respondents who survived a crisis 10 or more years ago said, and 27% claimed that they became overwhelmingly happy over time.

Each marriage is individual, as well as the struggles in it. And it's each family's decision whether to stay together or split. But considering the fact that more than half of the people who had given their relationship a second chance later said they did the right thing, isn’t it at least worth trying? What do you think?
