Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins: 102-Year-Old American Broke 2 World Records In Athletics

Many of us are sure that upon reaching a certain age, some things become beyond our powers. However, there are people who prove it wrong time and again!

For instance, a 102-year-old American, Julia Hawkins from Louisiana state broke 2 world records at the annual USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships.

This track-and-field event is for amateur athletes for whom training is a part of their active daily routine. People can take part in the tournament regardless of their age.

Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins covered the distance of 60 meters in under 24,79 seconds. Julia reached the finish line last but, taking into account that all her competitors were younger than her, she became the champion of her age group.

Moreover, Hawkins also set a world record for indoor shot put at 2.77m.

In the past, Julia was keen on cycling and she only took up athletics at the age of 100.

You have probably heard about 88-year-old Madonna Buder, also known as the "Iron Nun," who took part in more than 340 triathlon competitions and also broke the world record by covering the whole distance of Ironman Triathlon.
