How long could you live without communication, a mobile phone, and social networks? When answering this question, many people say several days, a week, a month. British Channel 5 decided to check how long a person can be alone. As it turned out, not everyone can last even a day!
Several volunteers had to drop all means of communication for 5 days and spend all this time in a special locked room. They had food, a bed and a toilet, as well as 3 non-electric personal items of their choice. No gadgets!
Charmayne, a 28-year-old student, wanted to prove it to herself that she was self-sufficient. But after a few hours, she became bored, then she started to cry, and then opened a letter from her husband, which she intended to read only after 2.5 days of the experiment. Because of a panic attack, she left the room on the same day.
36-year-old single mother Sarah lasted for all 5 days. But she was struggling with anxiety and was sick.
TV presenter George Lamb also decided to take part in the experiment. But he left the room 24 hours later as he could no longer figure out whether it was day or night.
Blogger Lucie and 28-year-old Lloyd spend all the 5 days in their respective solitary confinements. Lucie occupied herself with drawing. Conversations with the camera also helped.
Why is communication important?
People are social creatures. It is very important for us to communicate and express our feelings in order to feel good. The lack of communication can cause depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. So if you are sad, call your loved ones and talk about something pleasant. It will cheer you up!
The participants of the experiment admitted that being alone for 5 days is not as easy as it may seem at first. Would you take part in such an experiment? How about for 100,000 dollars?
