Well-raised children are the foundation of the future of any society. Pupils from St. Petersburg, Russia, decorated a Christmas tree with trash, which wasn’t to many people’s liking. But who is right here? Let's find out.

The children were involved in a school waste recycling project. They decided to use the collected plastic containers from various products to decorate the Christmas tree in their neighborhood.

Thus, spruced up yogurt and sour cream containers found their way to the evergreen branches, and a dishwashing detergent bottle became a mini-Santa. Pupils have shown inspiring creativity and awareness!

However, not all locals appreciated the idea of celebrating the festive season with a ‘junk’ Christmas tree, which started a heated debate on social networks. Someone praised the children for recycling waste and their creativity.

Others pointed out that such a tree doesn’t look very festive and the locals were appalled by the idea of spending the festive season next to such a monstrosity. But they were quickly reminded that last year, the Christmas tree originally decorated ‘properly’ was left completely bare by the end of the holidays. By the way, the original post was entitled:

About 40% of plastic packaging is used only once before being discarded. Less than one-fifth of the total plastic produced is recycled. The largest manufacturer of such products (29%) is China, a country where 18% of the world's population lives.

So, after all, pupils from St. Petersburg did a good thing. Did they save money on new Christmas tree decorations and in the process recycle some plastic waste? Yes, it may not have turned out drop-dead gorgeous, but in this way children are being raised to respect the world around them and protect nature. An excellent lesson for all of us, don’t you think?

If you want to join a program of plastic waste recycling, you can separate plastic from other garbage, throw it away into special containers, to then take it to recycling centers.

Make sure you discard it separately at work as well. And in your car, get a special bag to put used disposable bowls and cups after having a meal. There are many ways to protect the environment that won’t compromise your life’s comfort. All it takes is to be aware and responsible!
