Nutrition plays an essential role in preventing cardiovascular diseases. Unfortunately, you can’t avoid everything harmful, but it is advisable to at least reduce its intake.

1. Chips and crackers

Stay away from salty and crunchy foods in bright packaging. Simple carbs in chips and crackers damage your health just as much as harmful fats. Modern culture values convenience, but make sure to snack healthy. If you want to take something to have a bite on a trip, let it be apples or carrots.

2. Sugar

There are reasons why sugar is called “the white death.” Doctors recommend avoiding this product completely. If you can’t go that far, try to eat a pie at most once a week, according to Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado.

3. Fast food

Consuming fast food causes inflammation in blood vessels and increases triglycerides level in the organism. This inevitably leads to heart problems.

4. Energy drinks

Doctors advise to avoid them, as they contain a lot of sugar, and ingredients that may potentially induce high blood pressure or arrhythmia.

As for coffee or tea – you can drink them every day. Just make sure your drink doesn’t turn into a calorie bomb with sugar, whipped cream, caramel and other toppings.

5. Salt

Our organism needs salt. But an excessive amount of it can have consequences. The more salt a person consumes, the more they are susceptible to high blood pressure. And it, in turn, can provoke heart and blood vessels diseases.

Salt is everywhere, even in most unexpected products, such as desserts or tomato juice. So don’t salt your food too much.

6. Margarine

It is mostly used as a cheaper butter alternative, but it is made with partially-hydrogenated oils, one of the most common sources of trans-fats. They can cause heart diseases. Besides, trans-fats also accelerate aging of the skin and make it more vulnerable to UV radiation. Hello, wrinkles!

That’s why it is recommended to cook on a little amount of olive oil.

7. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is not as useful as it seems to be. It is a source of bad cholesterol, which leads to cardiovascular diseases. You may be thinking that you haven’t cooked anything on coconut oil ever. But it is in most supermarket cakes and biscuits. Have a look at the contents of the food you eat!
