World-Record Holder Has Finally Cut His Nails After The Long 66-Year "Experiement"

Perhaps, all the people have once dreamt that at some point in their lives, their names would go down in history, but, unfortunately, they usually do nothing for it. At the same time, you can become famous by getting into the Guinness Book of Records, similarly as it happened to Shridhar Chillal, the Indian citizen, who has recently celebrated his 82nd birthday.

This man was famous for keeping his fingernails on the left hand uncut for 66 years! Regardless of how difficult it is to believe, Shridhar started his experiment as early as in 14 years. It all began with the fact that one of his schoolteachers had a very long nail, and it was exactly Chillal who took part in breaking that nail. The boy decided to check whether he could grow at least one of the same length.

Initially, the young man was driven by the enthusiasm. However, soon he was so carried away by his idea, he decided to become the owner of the longest nails in the world. Of course, he had rather hard times. During his entire life, Chillal reminded himself to be extremely careful. For the sake of the record, he refused from a lot of enjoyable things, such as extreme sports. Moreover, from time to time he even needed assistance in the domestic chores. In particular, it was hard at night, when the nail plates had already reached a fairly big length. By the way, in the end, their total length reached almost 32 ft!

Why did the man decide to cut the nails? In reality, everything is pretty simple. Chillal became the part of the Guinness Book of Records several years earlier, so his experiment can be considered more than successful. Also, the nails’ weight and size of it did not allow him to use his left hand fully, especially since the pain became unbearable.

Chillal parted with his nails on July 12, 2018, in New York. In order to cut off his pride, Shridhar had to resort to the doctors’ help, but he does not regret this act ended the entire era, the time when he was a record-holder and a celebrity.

Shridhar was certainly sorry to cut his nails, after having them as his faithful companions for the long 66 years. However, he has finally received a possibility to become not only a famous person but also a completely free one.
