The corners of the mouth are essential for facial expressions. Along with other facial features, they enable people to tell your mood. If it happened to you that someone asked you why you were sad, when in fact you weren’t, it means that your regular facial expression looks sad. Fortunately, there are ways to help lift the corners of the mouth and make your face cheerful again.

Why it happens

Contrary to a popular belief that the problem simply lies with a constant bad mood, that's not the whole picture. The fact is that mimicry of the mouth relies on the muscles. Over time, they assume a certain position. Some of the muscles are engaged more often, while others get weaker from being rarely used. That’s how your face looks the way it does. In addition, with age, the function of the sebaceous glands decreases and blood circulation declines. It gets increasingly hard to keep the facial skin toned, which aggravates the problem.

Cosmetic methods of correction

To lift drooping mouth corners, many women resort to the services of cosmetologists. Some procedures provide a fast and noticeable effect.

Collagen injections and hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid fillers stimulate collagen production. And collagen injections stimulate the production of own collagen. Both products help to smooth the skin. Lifting can be achieved by an injection above the mouth corners to raise them with the help of the skin. However, many doctors don’t use collagen due to the risk of allergic reactions.

Mouth corner lift

This is plastic surgery that helps lift the corners of the lips. The procedure is quite effective, but recovery may be accompanied by discomfort and pain. If you don’t want to resort to such radical methods, you can try a facial massage instead.

SMAS facelift

This facelift procedure helps to give the skin freshness and elasticity without surgery.

Botox

The main task of rejuvenating Botox injections is to relax the muscles and thus smooth the skin. Although Botox will not help raise the corners of the mouth, it can be used as a preventive measure. With that, the procedure has many contraindications: it is not recommended during pregnancy, as well as in the presence of some diseases.

You can also lift the corners of the lips with the help of special exercises.

2. Try to relax all the facial muscles as much as possible, then start smiling, holding your lips in this position for a few seconds.

3. Slowly expose half of your teeth and tense your mouth muscles. Hold this position for 10 seconds.

4. Hold a pencil or a thick straw in your mouth and, while keeping your head still, begin to draw geometric shapes in the air from left to right and vice versa, using only the facial muscles. Continue the exercise for a few minutes.

5. Smile and lightly pull the muscles to the sides with your fingers. Stay in this position for 10 seconds.
