Kate Middleton and Prince William's love story

Their love story is quite complicated. The couple met back in their student years and experienced a lot both together and separately. Kate was the Prince’s official then unofficial girlfriend, but this didn’t stop the royal fans from watching her. Moreover, when the Duchess used to be called the offensive nickname “Waity Katie,” there was something that nearly ruined their love.

Andrew Morton, Princess Diana’s biographer, in his book William and Catherine: Their Lives, Their Wedding explained that Kate was hurt at the very beginning of her relationship with her future spouse. Accustomed to public attention, William often ignored her and talked about her with others as if she wasn’t standing by him. Morton says that the Duchess felt like one of his servants: she was just supposed to perform her “functions”.

Prince William's behavior made Kate worry a lot of times. Jessica Jane, the author of The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen, told a lot about this in her book. William's love and ability to get involved seemed to be pushing Kate into the background. He flirted recklessly, not caring about how it made her feel.

In the spring of 2007, the couple officially announced their separation. Katie Nicholl shared one of the versions of what happened in her book, Kate: The Future Queen. According to the author, the split occurred when William ignored an invitation to celebrate Christmas with Kate and deceived her expectations just a few weeks later, on Kate’s 25th birthday. Many assumed he could have proposed to Kate at that time. But this didn’t happen, and a few months later, the pair broke up.

In addition, some people considered Middleton a commoner – a person who wasn’t ready to become a member of the royal family. She was often compared to Diana. People believed that even after the wedding, she remained part of her own family, and didn’t fit the royal family.
