Ángeles Barrigo is a 24-year-old girl, and she has Down syndrome.

Down syndrome, which is also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of the third copy of chromosome 21. It is often characterized by physical growth delays, characteristic facial features, and mild to moderate intellectual disability.

This condition has many stigmas, among them - the number of people who think that by having this disorder, it’s not possible to obtain certain achievements, such as finishing a career, for example.

But this brave young woman proved to everyone who thinks so that they are wrong. Ángeles received a diploma after completing one year of study to work as a dental assistant. Her mother proudly stated:

Angie, as we call her (family and friends), will work in her sister's office.

The staff of the Odontological Association of Córdoba, in Argentina, an institution in which Ángeles studied, were delighted and proud of Barrigo’s achievement.

They said they believe that allowing people who have different health conditions to study is essential for growth of our society.

Ángeles showed that despite the differences, she is a human being just like the rest of us, and she is excited to study, grow, work, and to be a happy and successful woman.

Barrigo is not the only one who proved that people with disabilities can succeed in life. Jamie Brewer, who is a professional actress and a model, shares the same condition as well as Angela Bachiller - the first person with Down syndrome to hold public office in Spain.
