Animal abuse is more common than one would think. It takes many forms, from circuses that still use animals for people’s amusement, to homes where they leave pets outside at the mercy of the elements. According to official reports, out of the USA’s 70 million dogs and 74.1 million cats, 10 million suffer some type of abuse every year.

Neither reason explains the violence towards Pupa, a rescue dog who lives with her family in San Diego, California. Pupa became a victim of a mail carrier who used to pepper spray her in the face every time he passed by the house.
After reviewing home surveillance footage, the family learned that the mailman sprayed their pet with mace. Pupa writhed in pain, rubbing her eyes against the asphalt in an attempt to remove the chemical.
The family estimated that the mailman has sprayed Pupa at least 9 times.
The father of this family filed a complaint with the police and the US Postal Service.
In addition, the children started to show certain respiratory issues that could have been caused by the chemical substance sprayed over the dog. However, this hasn’t been confirmed by a medical expert.
After a few days of internal investigation, the San Diego District Office of the US Postal Service issued an apology to the family and Pupa.
They assured that they don’t condone this type of behavior against animals.
The appropriate personnel and corrective action will be taken as well as training given to all local letter carriers.
