A few years ago, when Barack Obama was still the president of the US, the presidential couple held a concert on the South Lawn of the White House, entitled 'In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina.' Among other renowned performers, there was Mexican singer Thalia.
The concert was dedicated to celebrating Hispanic musical heritage, of which the former president admitted to being an admirer. The former president said:
It moves us, and it tends to make us move a little bit ourselves.
What makes Latin music great is the same thing that has always made the United States great. The unique ability to celebrate our differences while at the same time creating something new.
Thalia was singing her famous song, 'Amor a la Mexicana,' as she invited Barack to dance with her. As can be seen in the video that is already viral on the Internet, Barack wasn’t expecting that. The singer asked:
Mr. President. With all due respect, will you dance with me?
Obama didn’t think twice before accepting the invitation, while his wife watched him from their table.
Although the dance only lasted a few seconds and clearly lacked choreography, both the Mexican artist and the US President seemed to feel at ease moving to the rhythm of the music.
When the concert ended, the presidential family, along with other guests, gave hearty applause to the performer and Thalia thanked the First Lady and the President for their invitation and attention.
It is uncertain if Barack got in trouble for the dance with the Mexican singer, but don't you think Michelle's face said it all?
