Prince Harry is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William, are always respective when it comes to their late mother, and try to commemorate her deeds and life through different means.
Many people know about Diana’s strong bond with her sons, but nobody has ever heard about the details of Harry’s birth. Prince Charles wanted to have a daughter, but Diana knew she was carrying a boy. Nevertheless, she kept it a secret until the end.
After the 9 hours of labor without any drugs, Diana gave birth to a baby boy, Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor. In Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton, she reveals that Charles was disappointed after seeing the son.
Charles always wanted a girl. Harry was a boy. His first comment was, 'Oh God, it's a boy'. His second, 'And he's even got red hair'.
During Harry’s christening, he told Diana’s mother:
We were so disappointed — we thought it would be a girl.
Later, Charles said it was just a joke, but these words really broke Diana’s heart.
Diana admitted everything was good while she was pregnant.
Then, suddenly, as Harry was born, it just went bang, our marriage. The whole thing went down the drain.
Now, the father and the son are in really good relations, since Prince Charles calls Harry his “darling boy” and says he is really proud of him.
