Meet Kingdom Choir: Gospel Singers That Made Royal Wedding History And Broke Royal Traditions

Date June 8, 2018

On May 19, millions of royal fans from all over the world tuned in to watch the wedding between Prince Harry and his American beauty – Meghan Markle. Although the two married in an Anglican service, the nuptials also had an American flavor.

The ceremony mixed classical music by Shubert and Bach, prayers, and (surprisingly!) a gospel choir. The latter choice has definitely caused a stir among traditionalists.

The happy couple invited Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir to their wedding. This choir is made up of British artists who have been performing for over 20 years.

The gospel singing talents performed the soul classics – Stand by Me by Ben E King. Although it’s a love song, some think it might also symbolize the royals’ transition into a more modern, inclusive family. After all, Duchess Meghan is the first mixed race woman to be married into the royal family.

The emotional and breathtaking performance moved royal watchers who rushed to social media platforms to react to it. And we think it was a great song choice too!

By the way, you can find the recorded performance below.
