5 Things That Happen To The Brain When We Stop Exercising

Physical inactivity affects physical health - this fact is not new to anyone. But did you know that mental health is also impaired by being sedentary? Thirty minutes of physical activity is the minimum that a person should exercise on a daily basis.

It may sound unbelievable, but our brain can tell the difference when someone stops exercising. Here are some of the negative consequences of not exercising:

1. There is a decrease in blood flow.

A person who exercises automatically increases their blood flow and this doesn't happen only during the physical activity itself but continues for the whole day. If you stop exercising, blood flow decreases, less “fuel” is provided for your body, and, consequently, you will feel more tired and be less active.

2. Memory is impaired

If there is a decrease in blood flow, the brain makes fewer neural connections. The hippocampus, one of the regions of the brain responsible for memory, is negatively affected, as is the lower temporal lobe. The latter is responsible for recognizing faces, numbers, and objects. Therefore, a person's memory can be seriously impaired.

3. There is a higher risk of developing brain diseases.

The life expectancy of cells is drastically shortened when a person stops exercising. The chances of having a stroke or developing other serious brain problems, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, increase as well.

4. Stress strikes.

Physical activity helps you forget about your problems, even if only for a little while. Likewise, when exercise is absent from a person's life, they are more susceptible to stress and anxiety attacks, causing other serious health problems.

5.You are unable to feel empathy.

The area of the brain that senses emotions in other people's faces is affected by a sedentary lifestyle. In other words, a person loses the ability to interpret what their senses say and is virtually unable to feel empathy.

These are only some of the reasons we should never give up exercise!
