Micellar Water: Practical Tips For Proper Skin Care

Date December 14, 2017

Micellar water is perhaps the best cleanser for the face. It removes both makeup and dirt from your face. Micellar water is a colloidal solution based on micelles, which are molecules of surfactants. The so-called surfactants are used in the manufacture of cosmetics and household chemicals.

They provide the cleansing effect of gels, shampoos, and powders. However, some surfactants greatly increase the permeability of the skin, making it vulnerable to other chemical compounds, lauryl and laureth sulfates being the most harmful ones.

The good news is that micellar water does not contain surfactants.

The micelles themselves provide a purifying effect. In addition, micellar water has a number of positive effects:

  • neutralizes harmful chemicals;
  • de-greases the skin;
  • is used as a prophylaxis for acne;
  • is suitable for cleaning dry, sensitive and delicate skin;
  • is recommended to those who wear lenses.

Micellar water was initially invented to purify the skin of children and people with dermatological diseases. The secret lies in the amphiphilic properties of micelles (that is, they can be hydrophilic and hydrophobic depending on the environment).

By the way, the amphiphilic properties of micelles explain the magical advertising effect of "pulling dirt". Nothing magical! Only pure truth!

Micellar water is not always the right choice.

Despite its universality, micellar water cannot cope properly with water-resistant cosmetics. You'd better have a special product for removing these types of cosmetics.

How to make a choice.

Since micellar water does not contain any harmful components, you can make a choice according to your own preferences and the sensitivity of your skin. The following components can be allergenic:

  • rosemary;
  • some species of roses;
  • lavender.

The skin reacts better to extracts of chamomile, sage, and thyme. Before applying micellar water to your face, you should check whether it contains alcohol. Ideally, there should be no alcohol at all.

However, a small quantity is still allowed. You'd better choose micellar water that contains glycerin and panthenol since they have moisturizing and healing properties. Disodium Edta is another important component of micellar water. It is a preservative that does not allow heavy metals from tap water to accumulate on the skin.

Avoid making mistakes when using micellar water.

Micellar water is an independent cleaning product. However, it should not be the only product you use to take care of your facial skin. Since micellar water absorbs all the dirt from the face, after applying it to your face you need to wash your face first with water and then with a foam or gel for washing. Women and girls with oily skin are recommended to use more active gels and soaps for the face. Women and girls with dry and sensitive skin can use a foam!

Facial care should be any woman's everyday task. Of course, the result is not always immediately visible, but the effect is definitely a long-lasting one! Take good care of your skin, and stay beautiful and healthy!
