8 Effective Tips To Lose Leg Fat And Make Your Legs Slim And Well-Toned

Date March 22, 2018

Do you want to make your legs skinnier? As is the case with other areas of your body, you need a comprehensive approach to get skinny, well-toned legs. Such an approach consists of diet changes, different types of exercise, and a few tricks that can give your legs a slimmer appearance.

Here is what you can do to get the legs you’ll want to show off:

1. If you haven’t been active, start slowly.

If you have a sedentary lifestyle and haven’t been exercising lately, start with smaller and less intense exercise sessions and gradually increase the amount and intensity of physical activity.

2. Be realistic.

Keep in mind that it takes time to see noticeable results of your effort to lose leg fat. Don’t get discouraged when you look in the mirror after the first few exercise sessions and see no changes, as you’ll surely notice them over time!

3. Burn more calories than you eat.

If you have some extra pounds, you need to burn more calories than you consume in order to lose fat on your legs and other body parts. Set a goal to burn 500 to 1,000 more calories than you eat daily to lose fat at a healthy pace.

4. Focus on the right exercises.

If you want skinnier legs, your goal is to get rid of leg fat, not to build muscle. Certain types of exercise, such as cycling and sprinting, can make your leg muscles grow larger. Your goal is just to make your leg muscles more flexible and well-toned, so focus on moderate-intensity activities, such as jogging.

5. Change your diet.

Make your diet more weight-loss friendly. Swap sodas for herbal teas and water flavored with fresh fruits and berries. Avoid processed foods, especially meat products and baked goods. Limit saturated fats (found in red meat) and trans fats (found in junk food). Eat more whole grains, beans and legumes, fresh vegetables and fruits, low-fat or zero-fat dairy products (such as cottage cheese), and sources of healthful fats (e.g. walnuts, avocados, and olive oil).

6. Drink enough water.

The importance of adequate hydration can’t be stressed enough. Drinking enough water is essential for keeping your digestive system working smoothly, which is an important part of weight loss. If plain water is too boring for you, add some lemon to it.

7. Wear dark-colored bottoms.

It has nothing to do with weight loss, but wearing bottoms of dark colors, such as black or navy blue, can make your legs appear slimmer.

8. Tan your legs.

Suntanned legs look slimmer than pale legs, but you need to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Apply sunscreen on your legs and other exposed areas of your body, and choose hours when the sun is less active (it’s the most active between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) to go suntanning.
