Denzel Washington Encourages Us Not To Be Afraid Of Sharing Our Faith With A Personal Story

Date November 22, 2017

Denzel Washington, now 62, has two Academy Awards to his credit, one for Best Supporting Actor in the 1989 movie Glory and Best Actor in 2001 for his role in Training Days. He has also won a Tony Award and three Gold Globes.

The iconic actor, director, and producer encouraged youths to not be ashamed of sharing their Christian faith in this day and age of social media.

The Integral Faith Of Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington revealed that while shooting the forthcoming film, Roman J. Israel, Esq., he and the producer and writer Dan Gilroy prayed and read the Bible every day.

God put us together… We prayed every day, we read the daily Word every day.

He added:

Dan and I have been prayer partners in this whole collaboration… We were on the same page from day one. We know who we work for, and we’re just trying to do our best work.

The Movie Roman J. Israel, Esq.

In a recent interview with Gospel Herald about his most recent movie, Roman J. Israel, Esq., though not overtly religious, Denzel said the movie is filled with Biblical themes, including sacrifice, honor, and faith in the unseen. It shows how a man gave up a successful career for a cause he believed in.

The movie is scheduled for release on November 22, 2017. The actor is proud that he gets to tell that story and encourage people to dedicate their lives to God. He said:

I speak now and I'm doing what God told me to do from the beginning, ... It was prophesied that I would travel the world and preach to millions of people. It was prophesied when I was 20. I thought it was through my work and it has been.

He continues by saying:

My mother said to me when I was 59, she said, 'Denzel, you do a lot of good. You have to do good the right way and you know what I'm talking about'.

Film-making - Denzel Washington's Pulpit

Denzel, who is never quiet about his faith, ade more revelations in a separate interview with CBN News. Washington said that faith without action amounts to nothing. "So, not everybody has to be an activist," he explained.

A woman prophesied years and years ago that I would travel the world and preach to millions of people. I asked my pastor, 'Does that mean I am supposed to be a preacher?' He says, 'No you already have a pulpit'.

That pulpit, according to Washington, is filmmaking. "That's what I'm all about now. I'm in the service business," he said. Holywood is definitely not the best place to showcase Christianity, but Denzel has glory to give to God, as he is often quoted saying, “Put God first.”

Now that it is becoming increasingly difficult to share a message about God, and some are all over the social media to bully people of faith, believers need the strength to stand for their faith.

Having a celebrity like Denzel is definitely an inspiration and model for Christian who are keeping the faith. We too can be bold to identify our own pulpits and shine the light of the gospel right there.
