Archbishop Of Canterbury, Justin Welby, Speaks About Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Engagement

Date November 30, 2017

Prince Harry, the fifth in line to the UK throne, who is popularly known for his numerous charitable activities, has just popped the question!

Prince Harry Proposes

In line with the expectation of most people who know the couple together, the Prince of Wales has officially asked Meghan Markle to be his wife. The prince himself confirmed this in a brief statement issued by Clarence House on Monday morning.

About their engagement, the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby has congratulated the prince and the actress. He particularly mentioned that he was glad the couple has decided to “make their vows before God.” He also added:

I am absolutely delighted to hear the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now engaged.

I have met Prince Harry on a number of occasions and have always been struck by his commitment and passion for his charities, and his immense love for his family.

I wish them many years of love, happiness and fulfilment and ask that God blesses them throughout their married life together.

The archbishop had already mentioned that he had no objections to Miss Markle marrying Prince Harry in a church, even though she divorced film producer Trevor Engelson in 2013.

Where It All Started

It has been 16 months and counting since the couple began their relationship after meeting through a mutual friend. In those months, they have been seen together in public on several accounts and have now be identified as a celebrity couple.

Speaking of their proposal, Prince Harry said he was “thrilled” and that details of the proposal would be released soon.

Megan Markle On Her Relationship With Prince Harry

Megan Markle, an actress on the show "Suits," is an advocate for UN Women, the United Nations office for gender equality and the empowerment of women, and a global ambassador for World Vision Canada, a Christian humanitarian organization.

She spoke about her relationship with Prince Harry in a Vanity Fair interview published in September, and said:

We're a couple. We're in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.

This is for us. It's part of what makes it so special, that it's just ours. But we're happy. Personally, I love a great love story.

We congratulate them for taking this leap in their love relationship and as they prepare for their wedding next spring, we wish them a happy life together.
