Pollster Claims Bill And Hillary Clinton Have 'A One-Way Open Marriage'
It looks like traditional marriages might not be as popular for people who hold any sort of power.
Mark Penn, the person who worked very closely with the Clintons, has decided to spill out some secrets in his forthcoming book, Microtrends Squared: The New Small Forces Driving Today's Big Disruptions.
One of the big book’s revelations concerns the Clintons' marriage. Penn claims that the political couple has ‘at least a one-way open marriage’.
Mark Penn worked as a pollster for Bill Clinton in the 90s and also served as a chief strategist for Hillary during her 2008 presidential campaign. He says there is a possibility that their open marriage was ‘not by choice’.
Bill and Hillary Clinton went to the altar in 1975. They openly spoke about their relationship in 1992 during a one hour interview that came after the news about Bill's 12-year affair with actress and model Gennifer Flowers.
The couple has a daughter, Chelsea, who is now 38 years old.
Penn opens up about the Clintons relationship comparing them to Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright's characters on the popular political drama House of Cards, where the fictional first couple has numerous partners.
It's not hard to conclude that Bill and Hillary Clinton didn't have at least a one-way open marriage. Perhaps it was not by choice, but the stories accumulated over the years until the fact of it became apparent. There was also no question that at the same time their relationship was so deep and enduring. If this was the model of the first couple, what did it mean for the rest of the country?
According to Penn, open marriages are ‘perfect’ for public figures because they can be more stable than a traditional marriage.
These open marriages are based less on sex and more on love, creating additional meaningful relationships that are part of the marriage in some ways and that may come and go, revolving around the couple, which still serves as the core unit.
The Clintons’ marriage has been surrounded by a lot of rumored affairs and sexual harassment accusations against Bill Clinton, but despite that, Hillary’s recent book, What Happened, which she wrote after losing the presidential elections, is filled with messages of love towards Bill.
When it comes to public figures, we usually see what we want to see. But is there a dollop of truth in Penn’s claims? Do old marriage traditions die hard?
