According to Nielsen data, ‘Roseanne’ scored the biggest total-viewer lift for any telecast on any network after three days of delayed viewing, which is pretty impressive. The three days total brings to staggering 25 million viewers.

What is the reason for such popularity? Is it because of the humor, well-played characters, or political pod text? Roseanne Conner, perhaps, is the only character on TV who is a hard-core Trump supporter, as well as her creator Roseanne Barr, but as it turned out the president’s name will never be mentioned on the show.

Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene in the sitcom, mentioned in an interview that Trump will never be mentioned by name on the show, despite its political subjects.

She said:

The Conners aren’t Trump supporters. Roseanne’s character is a Trump supporter — she’s the only one — and we never say his name, actually, in the show.

The actress went on to explain a little bit more about the show:

The show is not about politics. It’s not about anyone’s position or a policy, it’s really about what happens to a family when there’s a political divide, which is something that I think the entire country can relate to and something we need to talk about. So, with our show, it’s never about ‘doing an issue’ or ‘doing politics,’ it’s ‘how do these things affect a family unit?’

Nonetheless, Mr. President took credit for the show’s unprecedented early success, mentioning it in his speech on infrastructure on Tuesday.
