Two-time Oscar winner talked about her decision when she appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She spoke about her ill father, Stephen Swank, and the reason why she took a break from a very successful career in Hollywood.

On the program, she explained that the doctors didn't give her dad a lot of time to live if he didn't have the surgery. She said:

For those of you who don’t know, my dad got a lung transplant. It’s the hardest surgery a person can undergo and I thank all the people that make themselves a donor, it saves lives.

Now, according to the actress, her dad’s condition has gotten better, and he is 'alive and thriving and well.'

Recently, the Hollywood star took to Instagram to wish her dad, who turned 70, a happy birthday.

She captured the photo with:

The show’s host praised Hilary for making such sacrifice, but for Swank, who has strong family values, it wasn’t a hard decision. Previously, in an interview with InStyle she said:

Family is everything.

Despite the career break, 43-year-old Swank has no regrets and is definitely pleased with her decision.

I took three years off to be with him and help him through that life journey.

But it didn’t take long for Hilary to be back on the screen, as she will be co-starring in a new TV series Trust about the kidnap of oil family heir Paul Getty III in Rome by the mafia in 1973.
