Bill Maynard, Lovable Rogue Greengrass In Heartbeat, Has Died At 89

It’s a sad news for all the fans of the television drama Heartbeat. Bill Maynard, who was playing the lovable old rogue Greengras in the series, died aged 89 on March 30. His family said that the comedy actor passed away in the hospital, shortly after breaking his hip in a fall from a mobility scooter.


What do we know about Bill Maynard?

The actor starred in the popular drama from 1992-2000 and appeared in more than 150 episodes! Besides, Maynard was once a Britain’s best-paid comedian, earning $845 thousand per year in the 90s.

Sadly, he had suffered with strokes and other health problems, so he retired from acting in the 2000s. Still, the star made a comeback by appearing in a Heartbeat spin-off, The Royal, in 2003.

In real life, Maynard shared some similarities with his character in the hit drama, including a fondness for a game of poker, racehorses, and greyhounds. He loved showbiz and could boast about a successful career that lasted for many decades.
