Have you ever dreamt about winning a lottery? What would you do? Most people reply that they would leave their job, move to a dream house, or help their family. But how is it in reality?

Based on the answers of real-life lottery winners, the majority really does prefer giving money to their near and dear. However, less than a half move to a new house. And what can be surprising, many (almost a half) keep the job.

Unfortunately, very few manage to make the money last a long time, spending the entire sum within a 5-year period. But a Canadian teenager who won $1 million a couple of weeks ago will not be one of such people.

On March 14, Charlie Lagarde celebrated her 18th birthday. And to mark the occasion, she bought a bottle of champagne and the very first lottery ticket in her life. Now, imagine her surprise when it turned out she had won a million of Canadian dollars ($770 thousand USD)!

The girl was given a choice. She could take either a lump sum or $1,000 per week for the rest of her life. The second option was also tax-free.

Charlie dreams of becoming a photographer for National Geographic. So, she decided she would better get $1,000 a week, which she would spend on travel and education. As a spokesperson for the lottery corporation said:

It's without taxes so it's equivalent to a salary of more than $100,000 a year, so it's a great start in life for that young lady.

What lottery numbers did she choose? We don’t know. Most often, people pick the most commonly drawn numbers, choose the birthdays of friends or family, or use lucky numbers.
