This Christmas was special for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – they celebrated the greatest holiday of the year together for the first time. Furthermore, it was the first Christmas the Suits star spent with her future in-laws and the Queen herself, breaking the royal protocol once again.

Following family traditions

Just like many families, the British royals have certain Christmas traditions: they gather together at Queen's country estate in Sandringham, exchange gifts, and enjoy a festive dinner. Although, as reported by the Independent, it is not a dinner but rather a lunch. And in the evening, the whole family watches Queen's annual Christmas Message.

Going to a church at the Christmas Morning Service is also one of the royal family's old traditions.

And this year, Meghan Markle was allowed to become a part of this event, even though she is still a fiancee and not a spouse of Prince Harry.

During his recent guest editorship of BBC Radio 4's “Today” program, Harry opened up about Meghan's first royal Christmas.

When talking about the time they spent together in Sandringham, Harry said that “it was fantastic.”

She really enjoyed it and the family loved having her there.

Prince Harry also said they had “great fun” with his older brother Prince William, his wife Kate Middleton, and their kids.

Christmas surely is a family holiday, so it's great to see that the soon-to-be-wed couple could spend some time with the closest people they have and keep up some old traditions.
