2018 BAFTA Film Awards Nominations List Is Out, But The Internet Is Raving Over Some Obvious Exclusions

Just yesterday, the 71st BAFTA Film Awards nominations list was announced. Usually, that should elicit a lot of joy and anticipation from fans and movie lovers all over the world, but that was not the case.

This year’s list rather came with a mixture of surprises and snubs as many fans were completely blown away by the movies and persons that made the nominations list this time.

About BAFTA Annual Awards

In case you are not familiar with the BAFTA Awards, it is the British Academy Film Awards. It is an annual event that recognizes the best contributors to film within the UK and internationally. It’s more like the Academy Awards we have in the United States.

Now in the 71st edition, this annual event’s nominations list came as a surprise to some and a big bang to many others. Certain persons and movies that people had thought were definitely going to make the list were obviously missing, and that got people talking!

The 2018 BAFTA nominations list

Top of the list with the highest nominations was The Shape of Water, by Guillermo del Toro. The American fantasy drama had 12 nominations in all.

It was followed closely by Missouri, Darkest, Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing which all had nine nominations.

On the obvious misses side of the equation, Steven Spielberg’s period drama, The Post, wasn’t on the list. The movie, which features Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, already had 6 Golden Globes nominations and is a strong contender for the 2018 Oscars; yet, it was carefully omitted in the BAFTA list.

Mudbound and Wonder Woman were also missing in every category. But in what turned out to be a surprise to many, Paddington 2 received two nominations.
