The apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Donald Trump Jr. addressed Adam Rippon’s recent remarks about Vice President Mike Pence.

During a press conference, Rippon said he doesn't want the attention on his comments on Pence to distract the society from the competition.

Donald Trump’s son tweeted a link to a story from The Hill with the headline, “Adam Rippon: I don’t want my Olympic experience to be ‘about Mike Pence.'” Trump Jr. commented on the tweet “Really?"

As usual, Twitter came to the athlete's rescue

The wildly popular Rippon has become one of the early stars of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Rippon blasted the choice of Pence to lead the U.S. delegation at the Olympics.

Rippon has been openly critical of Pence leading the US Olympic delegation.

“You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy? I’m not buying it,” he told USA Today.

The quote was picked up by website The Hill, which was then retweeted derisively by Trump Jr.

Rippon is undoubtedly worth the recognition he's getting. He is not only the first ever openly gay male figure skater, but his performance on Feb. 11, 2018, in free skate left audiences mesmerized.

Regardless of Donald Trump Jr.'s attack, Rippon is a real inspiration for Olympians and young members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The figure skater discussed with CNN how he wants to use his platform to help others and how the messages of support he has received have fueled that drive.

I've got so many messages from kids all over the country — I'm getting so emotional thinking about it — I think that's why it's so important. I think as an athlete I use this platform to my advantage. I think it's giving my skating a greater purpose.
