There are many examples of reboots in TV and film industries: Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Doctor Who, Mad Max, etc. Some of them have been highly successful, and some have not. With a new cast of Charmed reboot being revealed, we finally can make some assumptions.

It has been developing for some time already

The new reboot is said to be feminist and revolve around new three sisters with witchcraft powers. It is set in present time, where the sisters live in a university town. They are fighting demons, breaking down patriarchy, and developing relationships. How would they have time for all that?

The CW has finally found three actresses that will become new sisters for the series. The cast was announced on March 5.

The new sisters

The oldest sister is named Macy and will be played by Madeleine Mantock, 27. Macy is a geneticist who is completely shocked by the discovery of her witchcraft skills. She is the most practical out of the sisters.

Mel is a lesbian. She is an outspoken activist and will be played by Melonie Diaz, 33, who is known for her appearances in many TV series, such as Person of Interest, Elementary, Rizzoli and Isles, etc.

Sarah Jeffery, 21, who is best known for her role in Disney’s Descendants is going to play the youngest sister, Madison. Her character is a fancy college freshman who wants to join a sorority. And have struggles with her goal because of the powers.

Criticism from the previous actress

Many people are excited because of the reboot. However, the main actress of the original series, Holly Marie Combs, doesn’t approve the revival. Here's what she wrote on her Twitter:

Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.

Holly’s harsh opinion on the matter certainly has the right to live. Many people supported actress and her statement:

However, let’s face the truth: we never know if it’s going to be good or bad. Star Wars made a huge success after the reboot. If there are any people who want to feel a bit nostalgic and watch the renewed version of their favorite series, the real question is “why not?” And if they didn’t like it, they can always watch the original Charmed once again. It's only a matter of choice.

We hope the CW’s reboot of Charmed will be as great as the original series.
