Prince Charles, 69, married Camilla Parker-Bowles, 70, in 2005, and the decision whether she will or will not be the next queen one day lies in his hands.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding her future title, but the royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told that the Prince of Wales is likely to give her the title of Queen Consort, even though the previous plans suggested that Camilla will be Princess Consort when Charles becomes a king.

Fitzwilliams stated:

Although the official line still is that the Duchess of Cornwall will be Princess Consort when Prince Charles ascends the throne, the choice is Charles's and he will make it within a day of the Queen's passing. She is expected to be Queen as every king has had a queen.

This year was the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's tragic death, and the current polls show that the majority of the British public is opposed Camilla becoming a queen. Only 19 percent of the questioned believed she should take the new role.

But Mr. Fitzwilliams thinks that the Duchess of Cornwall has proven to be fit for royal life. He said:

It is accepted that she has done very well in her current role and made him very happy. They are obviously ideally matched.

Camilla’s potential title will only become official when Prince Charles succeeds the queen. But he is already prepared to hold "showdown talks" with senior royal aides and discuss the possibility of making his wife “Queen Consort”. This meeting will take place very soon and will also involve government officials.

It’s been reported that Queen Elizabeth II thinks about taking a step back when she turns 95. When the Regency Act will be brought into force, it will make Charles a Prince Regent – a king in all but name. However, as heir to the throne, he will eventually become king, which leaves a question mark over his wife’s title.

Nonetheless, it has been claimed Princes William and Harry may not allow Camilla to become Queen, and Charles needs their support.
