It Has Been 70 Years Together, And The Queen Cannot But Mention Her Husband In Her Christmas Speech

Date December 26, 2017

It’s high time for Queen's annual Christmas message! This year, she pays tribute to the country’s residents and their resilience, especially during terror attacks in Manchester and London. But this is not it. She also honors her husband and thanks him for his support throughout all these years. And we cannot but mention that she definitely rocks her ivory white dress with Swarovski crystals.

Platinum anniversary

Last month, the Queen and her husband celebrated the platinum anniversary of their wedding. The couple has been together for 70 years! This is the absolute record among all British monarchs.

But their love has lasted even longer than their marriage! The two fell for each other during Elizabeth's visit to Dartmouth College back in 1939. Since then, they’ve got married, as well as welcomed four kids and even five great-grandchildren.

To mark the milestones, the royal family held a small celebration near Windsor Castle. Also, a new official photo portrait of Elizabeth II and Philip was published. The Queen looked absolutely stunning in her cream dress with a gold brooch with rubies and diamonds.

British tradition

In fact, the Christmas message broadcast has been a royal tradition for more than 80 years! In 1952, Elizabeth delivered her first speech, and she didn’t miss each of the following years. Five years later, Elizabeth’s speech was fully broadcast for the first time, and we have an opportunity to enjoy it even today.

In her speeches, the Queen usually congratulates the British as well as residents of other countries on the festive season. She also shares her thoughts on the events that took place around the world over the past year.
