For many people, Pierce Brosnan is still the swashbuckling James Bond we all love. Defeating bad guys and riding in fancy cars are his things. And his real-life persona seems hard to separate from the popular TV character. But the real Brosnan has had his fair share of defeats.

Cassandra, his wife of 11 years, succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1991. Then, in 2013, his daughter Charlotte died of the same ailment. Now, Pierce is still continuing with his life. The memory of his family and his faith help him 'survive the pain'.

The smooth-talking Irish man has moved on from the iconic Bond character, but he is still a regular face on television.

Legal drama

Pierce is in a lot of trouble. He is currently facing a possible jail term in India. This follows his appearance in an advert by Pan Bahar for their new mouth freshener.

According to reports, the product has been alleged to contain ingredients that may cause cancer. Before now, the Pan Bahar brand was associated with a highly addictive brand of chewing tobacco, which was also frowned upon by the Indian authorities.

43-year-old Pierce has been served legal documents questioning his appearance in the adverts. A ten-day window has been provided within which the former Bond star is expected to respond. Furthermore, Pierce could be jailed in India or pay a fine of 5,000 Indian Rupees.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Pierce said he was "deeply shocked and saddened" and was making effort to resolve the situation.

He is not the only one with ad troubles

Actress Scarlett Johansson has also had her fair share of fire for appearing in an advert. She featured in a Super Bowl advert for SodaStream. The Israeli company operates out of the disputed Israeli West Bank.

Following complaints by Oxfam International, Scarlett stepped down as Ambassador for SodaStream. Oxfam has strong opinions against companies operating in conflict areas around the world. However, Scarlett still remains associated with the company.
