The final straw came after The Daily Mirror published scandalous photos of Sarah Ferguson and lover John Bryan, an American financial manager. The duo was on vacation in Southern France at the time. By March of the same year, the Duke and Duchess of York were divorced.

She tried and failed to dispel accusations of infidelity

According to Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles by Tom Bower, Sarah Ferguson was really desperate to prove her innocence, especially to Prince Charles. The unofficial biography claims she even ran after Prince Charles in Highgrove with a Bible. This was as she wanted to swear her innocence.

It is also alleged that Sarah Ferguson offered an explanation for the toe-sucking incident, involving her and her American financial manager lover.

He was pretending to try the slipper on my foot and I was Cinderella... and I said, Oh, ha, ha, it doesn't fit because you are not the prince.

Following the incident, Queen Elizabeth II literally banished Sarah Ferguson from Balmoral. She did not return until 2008.

Still a Royal despite her divorce

Sarah Ferguson is still a royal in her rights despite being divorced from Prince Andrew. She is a descendant of King Charles II. In addition, she shares lineage with Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, and James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth. They were both illegitimate sons of King Charles II.

Furthermore, she also descends from Lady Anne Palmer. Lady Anne was the daughter of Barbara Villiers, also known as Barbara Palmer, 1st Duchess of Cleveland.
