For 26 years, Elton John has been hosting an Oscar-viewing party for his Elton John AIDS Foundation, which became a staple annual event.
David Furnish, the singer’s husband and the foundation's chairman, and Sir Elton invite their friends and favorite musicians every year to raise funds in order to fight AIDS. The rich and famous gathered together in West Hollywood Park on Sunday night.
The Glee star Lea Michele commented:
Everything that they do is so admirable. I’m speaking tonight with Chris Colfer from ‘Glee’ and we’re talking about ways that everyone can contribute. So we’re going to raise a lot of money and also get to celebrate all the incredible films and art made this year!
The actress was one of the many celebrity guests who attended the party. Others included Miley Cyrus and her fiancé Liam Hemsworth, Ricky Martin, Caitlyn Jenner, and Heidi Klum.

There was also a live auction held, which featured works of art and similar items, including a Herb Ritts photograph, a Bulgari diamond necklace, a Lalique crystal, and a star of the show - a painting of Her Majesty the Queen made by artist Chris Levine. The portrait is called ‘Lightness of Being, 2018’, and it was sold for a jaw-dropping $270,000. The evening raised $5.9 million in total.
Truly amazing to have raised $5.9 million at the Annual #Oscars Viewing Party!! Thanks to everyone that supported us. We couldn’t do it without the generosity of our sponsors, performers, event chairs and loyal @ejaforg supporters.
